Finolex Cables' manufacturing facility at Verna Industrial Estate in Goa faced a slope stability risk from a cut face adjacent to the plant boundary. The slope showed signs of progressive failure, and any rockfall or slope movement posed a direct risk to the facility's operations and personnel.
ViRaj Engineers designed and implemented a combined soil nailing and rockfall protection system. Soil nails were drilled and grouted into the slope at engineered spacings to reinforce the soil mass and prevent progressive failure. A rockfall netting system was installed over the nailed face to intercept any loose surface material, providing a two-layer protection system.
The slope was stabilised successfully, and Finolex's facility has operated without incident since the works were completed. The combined soil nailing and rockfall netting system provided a comprehensive solution that addressed both the deep-seated stability risk and the surface rockfall hazard.
“A slope that looks stable can still be dangerous. We don't just treat what's visible — we engineer what's underneath.
