KSH Infra's development at Bhamboli, Pune required a high retaining wall solution capable of handling significant surcharge loads from the development above. A conventional concrete wall was not feasible due to ground conditions, and the client required a solution that combined structural performance with an attractive natural stone finish.
ViRaj Engineers designed a Reinforced Earth (RE) Wall system with a gabion stone facia. The RE wall used geogrid reinforcement layers within the compacted fill to build a mass that could handle the surcharge loads, while the gabion facia provided the natural stone aesthetic the client required. The combined system delivered both structural performance and visual quality.
The wall was constructed successfully and has been in service since 2019. The RE wall with gabion facia system delivered a cost-effective solution compared to conventional concrete alternatives, while the natural stone finish met the client's aesthetic requirements for the development.
“Structure and beauty are not mutually exclusive — the best engineering delivers both.
